‘The Whistling Cavalier’
The Whistling Cavalier, known locally in bulford is said to whistle the first few bars of the traditional 14th century ballad, “Greensleeves”. In the
summer of 1995, a local teenage girl, witnessed the sighting of a man in a wide brimmed hat whistling this disembodied sound before fading into the night .Do

The ghost of a grey lady is reported in bullford village, she is said to walk from the manor house across the road and into the
nearby church grounds

‘Bulford Rose Crown’

The three ghosts that are known to haunt the Rose and Crown, one of which has been seen on numourous of occasions by staff is of
a woman who has appeared in the kitchen and along the hallway. There’s also the presence of a man who has been seen in the cellar who has been nicknamed
‘Billy’. This entity is known to rattles the barrels about and shoots the valves off the barrels also has been seen weaving in and out of the
pillars.
Also seen is the ghost of a highwayman who haunts the main bar. One Sunday evening, near the time of closing for the night, I was sat down
chatting with the landlord/lady of the pub, who have seen and felt the presence of all 3 ghosts I was sat talking about them and apparently if you know the
story and that Billy’s in the cellar and you dont acknowledge him with a simple hello then it’s beleived that he gets offended and during this time the
barrels are known shaking and valves whistling.
The woman upstairs is harmless, is known to walk free about as if nothing is wrong, but the highwayman is
a little more arrogant and likes to play tricks. e,g in the morning chairs stacked up and plates and cuttlery thrown around the kitchen but they never break
then hugh (the landlord at the time) said he’s in here at the moment. I said is he?yes he said u think u now about ghosts etc you tell me where he is!ok I
said n got up I was just about to walk to the back of the pub when something pulled me and made me head towards the old bay window near the dart board!as i
got near there the most strongest feeling ive had of a presence came over me a real nasty cold spot. I looked at hugh and said he’s here isn’t he with a
smirk he nodded and said he’s at the side of you. I walked back over to them and hugh said maybe you do have it I was waiting for you to walk off down the
bottom but as you stopped and headed straight for him you convinced me!sat with us was a bloke that came in alot and was keeping quite thinking we were
making it up but above us was wall mounted lights and they were flickering like mad and then the dukebox started playing about the record it was playing
started jumping and the temperature dropped quickly. I looked at hugh and said take it he’s coming over to join us. Hugh just smirked, but the bloke who
thought we was making it up changed his tune and said whats going on and asked if it was ok for a lift home. I dont drink in there much these days and its
got new owners who have swapped the pub about and made some changes and the main part of the pub where the activity was that night is now a restaurant.
